About Me

The Girl Behind the Lens…

Hi, I’m Gabrielle, a spirited photographer, poet, and creative storyteller navigating the dynamic world of art and technology in Johannesburg, South Africa. From a young age, I’ve been compelled to create, weaving stories through my lens, my words, and my heart. My work captures the beauty of human connection and explores themes of identity, love, resilience, and personal growth.

The Story Continues…

My photography journey spans over five years, covering weddings, matric dances, and vibrant events across the city. Beyond capturing moments, I aim to tell stories that resonate deeply, combining visual art with the emotions expressed in my poetry. My projects, like TIAFU Conversations and We Are, focus on empowering underrepresented voices and celebrating women breaking barriers.

While photography is my passion, my ambitions extend into STEM. With a background in programming and front-end development, I dream of using technology to drive innovation that uplifts communities. I’m passionate about creating accessible digital solutions, especially for healthcare and public services, inspired by gaps I observed growing up in a middle-income household in Johannesburg.

I’ve overcome challenges, from upgrading my photography gear to battling mental health issues, but these experiences have shaped me into someone who values growth, creativity, and resilience. I believe in the power of community and collaboration, and I’m driven to inspire others while continually learning myself.

In Essence…

Through my work, I hope to connect with people, foster meaningful conversations, and create art that moves and uplifts. Whether through a photograph, a poem, or a technological innovation, my goal is to leave the world a little brighter than I found it.

Albert Einstein famously said, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

I had always felt like I couldn’t shoot for the stars but I know now that my obstacle was never my inability to, for instance, climb a tree. My obstacle was believing I was incapable of doing what put my mind to. I realise now through growth and personal development that I was in the wrong room, surrounded by the wrong people and had the wrong mindset. We’re all different and that’s what makes each of us special. I believe that it’s important to remember that if you change the piece, you can’t complete the puzzle.
